Semi-finals and finals down for decision in Munster 40x20 championsh­ip

THE Munster 40x20 championsh­ip continues during the coming week with all Singles grades now at semi-final or final stage. Cork involvemen­t commences this Friday at Kilworth at 7.30pm with Kilworth’s James Moakley facing club mate John Horgan in Over 35B Singles Final. There should not be that much between them at the end of a contest that could go either way.

On Saturday in Mallow at 1.30pm in Ladies Junior B Singles semi-final Conna player Aoife Hurley plays Limerick Cathy Foley. Also on Saturday at Broadford at 1.30 is the Minor Singles semi final meeting of Kerry Sean Quirke v Tipperary’s Rory Grace.

In the feature game Junior Singles Final Mallow player Dale Cusack plays Clare Ciaran Malone in what promises to be a lively contest. On Sunday at venue to be decided again 1.30 start in Masters B Singles Final Mallow player Paul Walsh or Tipperary Willie Cahill plays the winner of Boherbue Roger Casey v Limerick Burt Henley with the possibilit­y of an all Cork final depending on results.

On Monday at Cashel venue 7.30 in Diamond Masters A Singles Final Jerry Guiney, Ballydesmo­nd, plays Limerick’s Jimmy Fanning.

On Friday evening at Kilworth venue 8pm Kilworth player Anna Dunne will face Limerick’s Clodagh Neville in Ladies Junior B Singles semi-final. The start of Munster Juvenile championsh­ip draws closer with our Compunet IT Solutions sponsored Boys and Girls due to take on the winner of Limerick v Tipperary in a semi final on Sunday, February 8 in from U-14 to U-17 Singles & Doubles in both Boys and Girls. At the other side of the draw Clare face the winner of Clare v Waterford also on February 8, Munster finals are scheduled for Sunday, February 23.

Coaching and training for boys and girls in all age groups from 14 to 17 will continue during the coming week as the coach appointed to each age group continues the preparatio­n for some of the difficult hurdles that lie ahead. This year for U-12 and U-13 Boys and Girls a new format has been agreed for running off those games with fixtures and dates due to be decided at a Munster Handball Council meeting on Monday next in Munster GAA Council Headquarte­rs in Limerick at 7pm.

Also this Saturday at Kingscourt venue in Cavan Second Level Colleges Boys and Girls championsh­ip semi finals and Finals are down for decision programme commencing at 10.30am with Cork Colleges involved in two semi-finals.

In Senior Singles Conna player Sam Dunning representi­ng Colaiste Chraoibhin,Fermoy will take on Alan Masterson, Rice College,Westport if successful in that game he would face the winner of Eoghan McGinnity, St McCartans, Monaghan, versus Jamie Maher, Castlecome­r CS, Kilkenny. In Senior Doubles Liscarroll players brothers Colin and Gearoid Healy representi­ng Scoil Mhuire, Kanturk take on Enda Lawless and Cathal Curran from Colaiste Baile Clar, Galway. If they get over that hurdle then they would face the winner of St McCartans College. Monaghan’s Justas Daminskas and Niall McKenna v Kyle Dunne and Billy O’Neill, Castlecome­r, CS, Kilkenny.

Last weekend at Mayo venues Shes Ace Ladies weekend of Handball was played off again attracting a large entry across all levels and age groups. Catriona Casey, Ballydesmo­nd and Martina McMahon, Limerick, played out another thrilling Senior Final with Martina coming out on top on a score of 15-9,15-11. At 13 & Under level Carmel Kelleher, Boherbue, took the spoils with a very skilful display overcoming Christine Percy, Tipperary, in the Final.
