Take action against mould...

-

MOULD is one the most prevalent and dangerous irritants a home can have if left untreated. Not only is it unsightly but its spores can lead to long-term respiratory problems. This is a time of year when mould spots are particularly a nuisance as more natural light makes them visible, while we tend to open our windows less in wintertime which means bedrooms and bathrooms is where mould is most at home.

Even more unsightly is the build-up of mould around shower tiles and bathroom tiles. This orange-like mould retains moisture until it seeps between the tiles the more the grout erodes. Get to a DIY shop and ask where the grout pens are. In less than five minutes you’ll have those tiles you paid a pretty penny for looking new again. Moreover, you and your family can do without mould spores which cause respiratory problems. If mould is a problem in your home it needs to be tackled, simple as that.

But while re-grouting tiles etc. with silicone is one measure, more important is that you identify the cause. Check for any leaks in windows, radiators, shower trays, and around bathroom sinks. These areas may be causing where mould spots. Also, every few years you should re-seal the base of shower trays and windows as this is where moisture builds. It is also vitally important that vents are kept free. Aerating rooms is very important as the air flow of rooms, especially bedrooms and bathrooms, must be constantly circulating.
