Pipe Band board members for 2020 picked
THE AGM of Cullen Pipe Band heard Chairman Patrick Fleming and Pipe Major Con Houlihan thank members, parents, committee and local community for their continued support.
It was another remarkable year for the band, having played at local events including Cullen Feis; leading home Cullen natives and All-Ireland Under-20-winning footballers; the victorious Knocknagree GAA team; the US Ambassador’s visit to Boherbue and Millstreet; and the St Patrick’s Day parades.
At the annual Sean Moylan Commemoration, the band had the pleasure of playing with neighbouring Kiskeam brass and reed band.
The shrill of the pipes saw Cullen to the forefront before a massive audience, delighted to play for Rod Stewart at the big Páirc Ui Chaoimh Concert.
2020 is off to a great start ,with the band teaching a great young group of enthusiastic pipers and drummers from the Duhallow area and looking ahead to a trip to France to participate in a music festival in July.
Newly appointed committee members are Co-Presidents Michael Forde and Dan Corbett; Chairperson Patrick Fleming; Vice Chairperson Aoife O’Riordan; Treasurer Geraldine Houlihan; Secretary Collette O’Connor; and Vice Secretary Breda O’Riordan.
A moment’s silence was held in respect of past members that went to their eternal rest during the year, including Noreen Lucas (Duggan), Pat O’Keeffe and life-time band supporter Der Kiely.
The committee wishes to acknowledge the continued support of IRD Duhallow, Cork Arts Department, the Arts Council, Cork ETB and the Department of Education.
