Multi award-winning actor unveiled as the January Cork Person of the Month
INTERNATIONALLY acclaimed star of stage and screen Sarah Greene has been honoured by her native county with the January Cork Person Month award in recognition of her acting success.
The Glanmire native, who started her career at the tender age of six under the tutelage of Catherine Mahon Buckley at the CADA School of Performing Arts School, will be familiar to many through her role Detective Cassie Maddox in the TV crime drama ‘ Dublin Murders’.
Her other small screen credits over the past decade include leading roles the shows ‘Rebellion’, ‘Penny Dreadful’ and ‘Ransom’ and she has also featured in big screen productions including ‘ The Guard’, ‘ Black 47’ and ‘Rosie’.
Her numerous stage credits include starring as ‘Helen’ along Daniel Radcliffe (of Harry Potter fame) in the West End and Broadway production of the ‘Cripple of Inishmann. Her performances won Sarah Tony and Olivier award nominations as well as the 2014 World Theatre ‘Outstanding Broadway Debut’ award.
Closer to home, Sarah has also won numerous Irish Film and Television Board accolades including the 2015 ‘Rising Star’ award and in the same year a ‘Best Supporting Actress’ for her role in the feature film ‘Noble’.
Sarah will be back on our screens this year in ‘Normal People’, a 12-part BBC series directed by Oscar nominated Lenny Abrahamson. Based on the award-winning book of the same title by Sally Rooney, it tracks the relationship between a couple from their school days in the West of Ireland through to their time at Trinity College.
She is also starring alongside Huge Laurie in the yet to be released four-part BBC One series ‘ Roadkill, in which the comedian turned dramatic actor play a ruthless self-made conservative minister.
It was fitting that Sarah made a nostalgic to the Everyman Palace Theatre to accepted her Cork Person of the Month trophy from awards organiser and Mallow native Manus O’Callaghan.
It was here that she cut her acting teeth on the stage with CADA, going onto perform in various productions both there and in the Cork Opera House prior to attending the Gaiety School of
Acting, graduating from there in 2006.
“I grew up working on the stage of the Everyman with Catherine Mahon Buckley and it was always my dream to go to hit Broadway – thankfully I made it,” said Sarah.
“What Catherine taught me has been invaluable and I owe her a lot,” she added.
Sarah will now for forward for possible selection as the Cork Person of the Year, the winner of which will be unveiled at a gala lunch at the end of the year.
