Rugby club’s ‘Split The Bucket’ helping to improve key facilities

-

THE fund-raising drive by Charleville Rugby Club that was launched late last year to raise money to improve their club facilities at their grounds at Shandrum, Charleville has proved to be an outstanding success.

Club President Pa Leahy explained that their new scheme is a ‘split the bucket’ scheme, where donors participate in a draw with the lucky winner receiving half of the money back, which has been donated in a particular week.

Commenting on the progress of the club, Pa said they were now playing in the 2nd division of the Munster Junior League and doing well on the field of play, and they also have a strong under age section.

“We are not in debt and intend to keep it that way, hence the launch of our drive for money to provide an adequate lighting system, and to build a walking track around the perimeter of the playing field.

“We also intend to install a gymnasium for our players to work out, as part of our plan to improve the player facilities,” said Pa Leahy.

The Charleville club changed their name to Charleville and District to reflect the growing number of players joining the club from the surrounding villages in the Charleville vicinity. This is in accordance with the growing popularity of rugby through the continued success of the Munster side.

If Charleville Rugby Club is to continue to attract new young players from the town and area they feel that they will have to put the facilities in place that will be on a par with those of other sports in the town. “We are all competing for the same pool of players, and it’s the club with the best facilities in place will win the new players,” said Pa Leahy.
