Knocknagree and St Peters clash to remain in U-21 football championship
THE Central Stores, Kanturk Duhallow U-21 ‘B’ Football Championship continues on the Round 2 meeting of Knocknagree and St Peters in Kiskeam this Friday night. Both sides attempt to bounce back from initial round defeats during the past week.
Last season’s runner-up, Knocknagree will be keen to maintain an interest but they will need to improve after succumbing to Sliabh Luachra Gael by a lone point earlier this week. Maybe not a high scoring encounter but a fascinating tussle developed where Sliabh Luachra landed crunch scores.
Knocknagree will look to Daniel O’Mahony, Michael Mahoney, Michéal Doyle and Denis O’Connor for encouragement. Opponents St. Peters handed over the initiative to holders Duarigle Gaels in extra and their brave efforts came out on the wrong side of a four point defeat.
That collapse is sure to rouse the Rockchapel and Freemount representation under the leadership of Martin Murphy, Jack Curtin, John Walsh and Eoin Collins.
Not too much is expected between the pair yet Knocknagree might be just ahead at the finish.
The last remaining first round tie sees Dromtariffe and Robert Emmets square up at Glantane.
The Newmarket based outfit can call on the services of Josh O’Keeffe, Cathal Browne, David Cottrell, brothers Mikey and Paddy Browne to inspire confidence. For their part, Dromtariffe parade an experienced line up, looking to the key involvement of Conor O’Callaghan, Ray Daly, Evan Murphy and Tomás Howard for encouragement.
Not too much expected between the pair again, Dromtariffe slightly fancied to succeed in a close encounter.
From the C grade, Croke Rovers are down to play Lyre in a county qualifier on Sunday where the winner is assured of a place in the county. Crokes are backboned by Denis Lucey, James Burke, Stephen Hayes and Michael Buckley with Lyre fronted by Cathal O’Donoughue, Alan Coughlan, Evan O’Brien, Donncha Doherty and Seán Long.
