TABLE QUIZ FOR LOURDES VOLUNTEERS
TWO fifth year students from Millstreet Community School will be giving up a week of their Easter holidays to act as helpers with a special pilgrimage to Lourdes for young people.
Volunteers Ria Buckley and Hannah Keane are travelling with the Irish Pilgrimage Trust. To offset their expenses, a fund raising table quiz hosted in Millstreet GAA Community Hall met with an overwhelming response.
For close on 50 years, groups including young people with special needs have travelled from all over Ireland on Easter Sunday and participated in a unique week in Lourdes. Together with friends from the wider community of Pilgrimage Trust Charity, over five thousand pilgrims enjoy this unique experience every year.
Millstreet Community School Chaplin John Magee referred to the school’s long association with the Lourdes pilgrimage and explained the cost of the participant’s travel and accommodation was €670/person and they were delighted to cover these costs through fundraising efforts.
“Many thanks to everyone who supported the table quiz, the turnout was fantastic and €1,010 raised. Between the quiz and the bake sale that was held before Christmas, their target has been reached of covering the cost of €670 per person with funds raised above this total going towards the fundraising efforts of Group 126 which is the group the girls will be travelling with,” he said.
Outright winners on the night were Tommy Tucker, Liam Fitzgerald, Joe O’Riordan and Bernard Murphy with the School section won by a team of Katie O’Sullivan, Sarah O’Keeffe, Gráinne O’Connor and Claire Lyons.
