DUMPING IN NAGLE MOUNTAINS
The Nagle Mountains area fantastic amenity on our doorstep. It clears the mind of the troubles of life to be walking or cycling on the trails, or observing the skill and daring exploits and feats of those who use who use the trails for motor cross. All are welcome, and it is completely free and open.
It is very sad then, to come across indiscriminate dumping. That meant that a person deliberately choose to drive to an isolated location, park their vehicle, and haul their bags of rubbish to a quiet location and mindlessly toss then aside. A desperately sad reflection on those that do this sort of thing, and reflects so poorly, on what they think is acceptable in society in 2020.
Save our planet, decries the admirable Greta Thunberg. Let’s bring it all home, and start on our own doorstep.
The desperately sad thing is that most of the rubbish observed could be recycled, but the easy option by the mindless morons was to dump it, in our mountains.
Hopefully, they have been observed on the CCTV cameras, which have been installed discreetly around the mountain trails, and the full rigours of the law will be doled out.
The Waste Management Act imposes a general duty of care on holders of waste, under which a person may not hold, transport, recover or dispose of waste in a manner that causes, or is likely to cause, environmental pollution. Penalties for serious dumping offences provided for under the Waste Management Acts are substantial.
Persons, who are found to be responsible for, or involved in, the unauthorised disposal of waste are liable to a maximum fine of €5,000 on summary conviction and/or imprisonment for up to 12 months, and to a maximum fine of €15 million on conviction on indictment and/or imprisonment for up to 10 years.
