CHURCH NEWS

Mass Times – Saturday, February 8 (Vigil) 7.30 p.m. Sunday, February 9, 8.30 a.m. 9 a.m. Latin and 11 a.m.

Weekday Masses: Morning Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Monday, February 10, to Saturday, February 15, There will be Adoration and Benediction of the Blessed Sacrament on Thursday after 10 a.m. Mass till 11 a.m. Confessions will be heard before the Vigil Mass on Saturday evening.

MONTH OF FEBRUARY – The month of February is dedicated to the Holy Family, Jesus, Mary and Joseph.

CHURCH COLLECTIONS – On the Sundays that there are two collections, the first collection will be taken up at the Offertory and the second collection will be taken up after Holy Communion.

SCHOOL/PARISH HALL COLLECTION – Those, who received the special envelopes for the School/Community Hall are kindly asked to return these as soon as possible.

CATHOLIC NEWSPAPERS – The Catholic Voice is on sale in the church porch. Price €1.50. Sympathy Mass Cards and Mass Bouquet Cards are available for purchase in the church porch.

SPRING (LENTEN) STATIONS – The Spring (Lenten) Station list is currently being drawn up for the parish. Anybody wishing to host a Station Mass in their home please contact the parish priest at 063 81470 or leave your name into the sacristy. The Stations will start in mid-February.

VIDEO STREAMING – A video streaming facility has been installed in the church to allow weekday and Sunday Mass as well as funeral and wedding ceremonies etc. to be broadcast over the internet. While primarily intended for the sick and housebound, the service is also open to anyone who wishes to have it. By logging on to mcnmedia. tv/; weekly and daily Masses as well as funerals and weddings are available to anyone with an internet connection. Family and friends abroad might like to go to see the Parish Masses and what is happening in the Parish Church. The number of views to the website over the last 12 months was 15,000 from countries such as United States of America, Canada, Germany, Italy, Phillipines, Poland and Ireland.

CHURCH GATE COLLECTIONS – No church gate collection taken up at St Mary’s Church, Ballyhea is endorsed by the parish. Any group or organisation intending to collect outside the church gates are asked to present copies of their permits in the sacristy, together with copies of letters of authorisation of those collecting on their behalf. This should be done before the collection commences.

NEW CHURCH WINDOWS The New Windows have been installed. They are timber sash windows modelled on those of St John the Baptist Church in Kinsale

which was built in 1832 by the same architect as Ballyhea, Br. Michael Augustine Riordan. One of the new windows installed in the church will become the Parish Memorial to the visit of Pope Francis to Ireland. If anyone or any family wishes to sponsor a window, this can be done by a single subscription or by a number of subscriptions over a period of time. One window will be open to public subscription, anyone can contribute any amount to it if they so wish. Please contact the parish priest – Monsignor O’Brien.

CHURCH CHOIR – The choir has resumed on Sunday at 11 a.m. Mass. New members are always welcome.

BALLYHEA NATIONAL SCHOOL

Enrolment forms for the school year 2020/2021 are now available. Prospective Parents/Guardians may make an appointment to meet the school principal and to view the School. GAA NOTES

LOTTO – The lotto was held on Monday, January 27, at the Corbett Court. There was no winner of the jackpot of €3,700. The Numbers were 11, 23, 31. There was one jackpot winner, Adrian O’Regan c/o Kieran O’Regan. Congratulations and best wishes Adrian. Next week’s draw in the Idle Hour, jackpot €1,000. MASTER FIXTURES PROGRAMME – The County Board have announced the Master Fixtures programme for the year ahead. Key dates scheduled are SHC v Douglas w/e April 19. SHC v Midleton w/e August 9. SHC v Sarsfields w/e August 30. Leagues commence w/e February 16.

SELECTION COMMITTEE – The Selection Committees were ratified recently. Senior: Adrian Gilligan, James O’Shaughnessy, Aidan O’Connor, Eamon Crowley. Junior: Darren Ronan, Jonathan O’Sullivan, Eamon Morrissey. Under-21: Seán Curtin, John Mortell, Mike Morrissey. Irish and Cultural Officer: Mikey Browne.

JUVENILE COMMITTEE – The Juvenile Committee was ratified at the recent Club Executive Meeting. GAA MEMBERSHIP – Club Membership for Juveniles is €20, Adults €40 and Family €80.

JUVENILE CLUB REGISTRATION NIGHT – The Juvenile Club registration night will take place on Friday, February 7, in the club Pavilion from 6.30 p.m. to 8 p.m.

BALLYHEA GAA DOES STRICTLY – The Couples have commenced training for the big night on March 14 in the Charleville Park Hotel. ALL IRELAND INTERMEDIATE FOOTBALL FINAL – Huge Congratulations to Ciarán Hanley and the Oughterard footballers who won the all-Ireland Intermediate Football Final in Croke Park on January 25.

CAMOGIE VICTORY SOCIAL – Ballyhea camogie club’s Victory Social will take place in the Charleville Park Hotel on Friday, February 21, to celebrate the Junior A County Success and the under-14 all-Ireland Féile. There will be a three course meal, a DJ and lots of craic. Tickets will be available to purchase from Marie Harty, Liam Crowley and Andrew Walsh. It promises to be a great night.

COMMUNITY ALERT

Ballyhea Community Alert has successfully set up a Text Alert Network to immediately alert our community when an incident occurs. Prompt information to and from Gardaí deters criminal activity. MEN ON THE MOVE

Ballyhea Men on the Move is back and will be held at 7.30 p.m. on Mondays and Thursdays in the Gym in the new complex in Ballyhea GAA Club. All ages (currently ranging from 30’s to 60’s) and all levels of fitness catered for, and participants from outside Ballyhea are very welcome. Please come and along and try it out. SPEEDING

Speeding is still continuing to be an issue through the parish so please be aware of the speed limit of 60km.

PANTO

It was ‘Curtainup’ for the annual PANTO which is promoted by ‘Buttevant PANTO Club’ in association with the ’Dorada School of Dance’ Buttevant. This annual extravaganza is always eagerly awaited for and both participants and audiences are always waiting in anticipation for the ‘Curtain Up’ which took place last weekend in the local G.A.A. hall. This annual ‘showcase’ enthralled the audiences on both nights’ the performances by the participants were full of fun frolics and frivolity.

The entertainment in the PANTO keept young and old engaged throughout the show. There was an age range of participants from the very young to the more mature entertainers.

The title of this years’ offering was ‘Sleeping Not So Beauty’which took to the stage to fullhouseson Friday January 31st. 2020 and Saturday February 01st.2020 respectively at 07.30 p.m. each night.

All proceeds from this years’ PANTO will be donated to ‘Marymount Hospice’ Cork who do untold work for those people who have come to the end of their days on this earth.

COMMUNITY COUNCIL

Buttevant Community Council of Muintir na Tire is currently in the process of contacting all local organisations clubs committees associations and community bodies who may have ideas, business projects, forward looking plans or innovative and creative developments industrial or commercial that would be of benefit to the community and engage in a positive dialogue with the people involved.

Buttevant Community Council has established a positive and regular communicative association with Cork County Council and Avondhu Blackwater Partnership who are two of the major governmental bodies who are there to help and provide funding and advice for those who may wish to establish business industrial or commercial or a retail establishment which if established and come to fruition may give much needed employment and be of benefit to the local community. Buttevant has received regular funding down through the years and has a positive associationwith both bodies.

BUTTEVANT GAA CLUB

Buttevant G.A.A. club held their annual general meeting a week or so ago and a great attendance was evident. The officers of the club presented their end of year reports which were well received by the attendance.

The outgoing officers thanked the committee, members for their services and also thanked the players for their dedication and support for the club. The supporters and general public were also thanked for their continuing support.

The outgoing officers of the club were re-elected having done such an excellent year of work and promotion during their tenure of the previous term of office. May the club its’ committee members and teams have another successful year both on the field of play and G.A.A. events in general.
