ATHLETICS CLUB NEWS

MUNSTER AWARD FOR AOIFE O’SULLIVAN - At the Tower Hotel in Waterford last Saturday night, many of Munster’s finest and best athletes were rewarded by Munster Athletic Council for their performanc­es in athletic track and field, cross country and road championsh­ips throughout 2019. Among those who received rewards was Liscarroll AC’s high jumper, Aoife O’Sullivan.

Aoife competed in up to 20 championsh­ip events during the year at juvenile, junior and senior level being successful in most of them. She was also involved at Internatio­nal level, competing in the European Juniors in Baku, Azergypan and competing in the Nation’s Cup and Celtic Games in Dublin. This was a great year for herself, for her father Martin (her coach) and her mother Siobhán (her no. One supporter). Well done and congratula­tions to all on a busy and successful year.

CROSS-COUNTRY - Five of our runners competed for their schools at the South Munster Schools Championsh­ips held last Thursday. Those, who took part were Isobel Kellegher (St Mary’s Mallow) who finished fifth out of 47 in the junior girls category.

In the junior boys race, Robert Troy (Charlevill­e CBS) ran his best cross country race yet, finishing second out of 145 in a close finish.

Also competing on the day at intermedia­te level were Rory Troy, 27th; Bill Collins 35th and Cillian Cotter 91st (all Charlevill­e CBS) out of a field of 121 runners, well done to all.

SYMPATHY - The sympathy of the officers and members of the club is extended to Mary Burton, Lackaroe, Liscarroll on the recent death of her sister Margaret Jones, Lake Vale, Ballydesmo­nd, who died recently. To her husband Evan and family, many relations and friends, we extend our sincerest sympathy. May she rest in peace.

Also sympathy is extended to Helen Fitzpatric­k, Daisy Park, Liscarroll and family on the death of her sister Mary O’Keeffe, Highfield Drive, Buttevant, who died recently. To Helen and family, brothers and sisters and mother, we extend sincerest sympathy. May she rest in peace.
