Johnny Hickey memorial run hits the road
INCLEMENT weather failed to hinder some of the finest vintage and classic cars from around the South West Region that participated in the annual Johnny Hickey Memorial Spring Car Run hosted by Millstreet Vintage Club.
Johnny was a founding member and former Chairman of Millstreet Vintage Club, a highly respected person both within the club and beyond including a long time involvement with Millstreet Pipe Band.
Club PRO Bernard Crowley expressed thanks to all involved on contributing to a hugely successful event.
“A fabulous number of 60 cars participated, thanks to each and everyone for making the trip to Millstreet. The cars were led out by the Millstreet Pipe Band with whom Johnny Hickey was an active member of for many years”, he said.
The calvacade made their way to Tullig along the scenic Butter Road to Ballinagree and Coachford for a Tea/Coffee Stop at Griffins Garden Centre.
Back into the prized vehicles, the Run continued its way to Cloghroe, Donoughmore, New Tipperary, Bweeng and Grenagh for a welcome meal at The Farm.
“Millstreet Vintage Club would like to thank everybody who helped out to make the event a massive success, especially the stewards, bike marshalls, registration/sign on and route layout personnel. We wish to thank Millstreet Pipe Band, An Garda Siochana, Wallis Arms Hotel, Griffins, the Farm, photographers and media people for their support”, said PRO Bernard.
“And thanks to the Hickey Family for their backing, for donating the Johnny Hickey Memorial Cup to Millstreet Vintage Club. Congratulations are extended to the latest winner, Denis O’Riordan for best car in his Toyota Cressida, a most worthy recipient as we look forward to seeing everybody again for the 2021 Johnny Hickey Memorial Spring Car Run”, he said.
