GO RAIBH MAITH AGAIBH

A sincere thank you to all in our parish, who work in the many various jobs and industries doing their best each day to ensure we all get through this crisis safely. We are thankful for what you do and are very proud of you all. Stay safe.

Covid-19 is a very important issue in all communities at the moment, particularly after the Taoiseach promoted cocooning and isolation till April 12.

We as a community need to make sure that our more vulnerable people and those who are isolated or live alone, those who cannot drive or who cannot get supplies as easily as some of us can are looked after.

In our own neighbourhoods we can check with others around us to ensure that they have all the essentials they need. It is also important to check in with these people to ensure that they are feeling well and to reassure them they have supports if required.

Postcodes are a vital piece of information all the time but in particular at the moment. Keep yours written by your phone. For those who are checking in on older or more vulnerable people at this time make a note of their postcodes also.

COVID-19 VOLUNTEER GROUPS

In Killavullen 2groups have been set up in response to cocooning and self-isolation requests by the government. One group is a telephone group. A group of willing volunteers have offered to ring locals as they isolate and cocoon. They will be a friendly voice in the day to break up the monotony and the loneliness than can sometimes occur. This group will also ask if anything is needed or required, shopping, prescriptions, milk, newspapers, stamps etc. They will then pass this information onto the second group.

The second group is a WILLING HANDS GROUP This group is one which is made up of people will get what is needed and are willing to deliver the items to those cocooning or isolating.

If you are cocooning or isolating and this service would be of benefit to you please contact Gillian at 086 3845655 to be included and tell your friends. If you have a relative or neighbour who you think would benefit please let them know. To make this service work we need to have contact numbers from those cocooning or isolating.

An Garda Síochána in our districts of Fermoy and Mallow have dedicated Gardaí whose priority will be looking after the needs of those who are most vulnerable. If you or someone you know is vulnerable due to their age, health or ability please contact the Gardaí and they will assist in any way they can. It may be to deliver a prescription or something requiring attention in your home, they will not be able to assist with giving drives to people. Contact Fermoy Garda Station 025 82100 ; Mitchelstown 025 84833; Mallow 022 31450.

A Killavullen Facebook Group has been set up in response to this: Look after the Elderly in Killavullen for those who may be able to assist people in any way at this extraordinary time.

AVONDHU BLACKWATER COMMUNITY CONNECT PROGRAMME.

The handyman service will continue for older people till we receive notice to cease delivering the service. However, the Friendly Call service will continue to be delivered and we will be giving out contact details for the community volunteer groups below to our participants who might need essential provisions delivered etc. Family members may be isolating themselves and we would suggest that contact via a phone call, skype or facetime or other means from family and friends may be very welcome for older people at this time.

You are probably aware of people in your community who have an alarm but perhaps don’t wear their wrist button or pendant as a rule. We would appreciate if you could remind family members or neighbours to wear their pendant in case of any emergency.

Anyone wishing to now apply for a monitored alarm can do so by telephoning Mary at 085 1068789. To speed things up applications will be taken over the phone and can be followed up later with forms etc. =95

Emergency Response have a three/four working day turnaround for emergency applications, all others have a 10 working day turnaround. All relevant information re the Senior Alert Scheme will be given to the applicant when they make the call. A number of community groups have been set up in various areas to deliver essential food, prescriptions and provisions. Please pass on the contact details of any of the groups if you know of someone living within one of these areas. In Killavullen you may contact Gillian Forde 086 3845655 and she will pass on details to the volunteers who are available to help.
