Library services
Over the coming weeks with so many people staying safe and at home, Cork County Council’s Library Service has reminded people, that despite the County’s 25 libraries currently being closed, there are a number of library services still available via www.corkcoco.ie. Whether it’s reading a book, keeping up to date with the news, taking the time to learn a language or doing a course online, there is a wide range of free online services accessible to all library members.
For those not already joined with their local library, it is now possible to set up a temporary library card number to avail of these online services. Visit the library page on Cork County Council’s website at www.corkcoco. ie/library-services/library-online and simply following the instructions.
Services available include E-Books and E-Audiobooks (Borrowbox), EMagazines (RBDigital), E-newspapers (Press Reader), E-Learning Courses (Universal Class) and E-Languages (Transparent Language Online).
Local Studies Digital Collections are also available, allowing Library Members to learn about their local area or investigate their genealogy. The Cork Local Studies Digital Collection, which includes previous exhibits, photographic collections and digitised material from Cork and Irish Collections as well as a selection of local history journals, can be viewed at www.corklocalstudies.ie. Cork County Council Local Studies library staff are available to answer queries by email
Covid-19 has had an enormous impact on everyday life leading to a variety of challenges for many in our communities. With this in mind, Cork County Council has extended the closing dates for a number of Grant Schemes currently available for applications, including the County Cork Commemorations Grant Scheme 2020. Pictured are representatives of close to 200 groups in the County Hall Foyer, who were engaged in commemorating the centenary of the Easter Rising in 2016.
