IF you’re looking for a fresh new novel, Fermoy-based author Sue Curran has published her new novel, ‘ A Different Happy’, just in time for summer reading.

Originally from Middlesbrough in North East England, Sue moved to Co Cork with her husband and three boys over 25 years ago. Sue’s latest novel takes ‘Joy’, the main character in her first novel, ‘ The Way of Life’, back to the stunning Scottish Highlands, and the sunny south-west coast of France.

“Readers of my first novel plagued me for news on a follow-up,” Sue said. “I knew that there was more in store for Joy, the main character, her story needed to be written.”

Living in Fermoy with her husband, Tom, and their Labrador Zack, writing has been Sue’s passion since she was a child. However, it wasn’t until much later, amid a busy family life raising three boys and working full-time as an office manager, that she found time to get the stories inside her head down on paper.

In 2009 Sue wrote that first novel, The Way of Life, set on the 95-mile walk of West Highland Way, but life got in the way and it was 2013 before the book was published. She followed this with Kyla’s Place, in 2017, a novel that explores the intricacies of family relationships and how vital a sense of belonging and of who we really are is so important to all of us.

In the new novel, after two years living in France, hiding from her shattered marriage, Joy is back in the Scottish highlands helping out at her best friend, Ruth’s B&B - and storms aren’t far off here.

Sue writes for the love of storytelling - life continues to get in the way, but Sue continues to write. A Different Happy is her third novel, and already she is working on book number four!

Available through Amazon on Kindle and paperback.
