COVID-19

In the uncertain times when families are worried about the future, exams, weddings etc, its pleasing to see the number of organisations at national level that rare on standby to help with advice and counselling where required.

Also, at local level and in different ways many have stepped up to the mark with the SuperValu and Co-op stores taking price of place with their home delivery service which is carried out in such a friendly manner.

Our parish priest, Fr Jim Kennelly is constantly at your beck and call with sound advice.

The local garda Charlie McCarthy and his colleagues are only one phone call away while Postwoman Nora Breen has become such an important link to the outside world for many homes.

The post office and pharmacy provide an invaluable service.

Likewise, the local Water Curator, Eddie Bradley and Luke Hurley, manager of the modern sewerage treatment facility are doing unseen work.

The GAA club have a list of names on hand to help while many individuals are performing kind and neighbourly acts.

Another group who deserve special mention are the teenagers and young men and women who have acted with great maturity and deserve credit for the way they have conducted themselves during this unexpected summer holiday. This pandemic has brought out the best in a lot of people, something not previously visible in many cases but something that was there only to harvest it.

Lets hope that we have all learned the lesson that we need one another for survival.

TIDY TOWNS

In addition to last week’s Tidy Towns report, this week we make special reference to the continued work and improvements a McAuliffe Avenue, where a number of residents are involved in the Tidy Towns Committee.

Each evening they are at work and the fruits of their labour are there to be seen.

Further out the

Knocknagree

road opposite the Educare Centre is the ‘Gneeves Garden’ which is really taking shape and as soon as the present lockdown is lifted and its once again permitted and safe to work in groups further developments which have been planned will commence.

PIETA HOUSE

Boherbue GAA Club 5k or 10k walk/run in aid of Pieta House had over 260 participants which raised over €8,000 for this important group of people who do such charitable work – there at all times to answer the call th those who reach out for help.

The support was overwhelming and humbling stated chairperson Eileen Casey O’Connor with runners in Canada, USA, the UK, Abu Dhabi and Holland which showed the exiles have not forgotten their roots.

Well done to all involved, the club itself, the participants who covered over 1500k and those who contributed financially to this cry for help. With the Darkness into Light cancelled due to Covid 19, everyone is so important to those at Pieta House. on Monday night next May 18th.. 2020 at 10.06pm..
