-

KANTURK has been well represented and served the Duhallow GAA Board well over many years since its establishment in 1933.

Chairman: The post of Chairman was held by PJ Kearns, a native of Roscommon, from 1940 to 1947. His son, Joe Kearns, who worked for the ESB, is the current incumbent of the office since 2016 and also served as Vice Chairman from 2011 to 2015.

The late Frank Healy gave a life time of service to the Duhallow GAA Board, being its Chairman from 1970 to 1973 and also served as Registrar from 1961 to 1968, along with being President from 1974 until his death in 2016.

Vice Chairman: Tom Walsh, a former player and centrally involved at management level with Kanturk teams over the years, served as Duhallow GAA Board Vice Chairman from 2003 to 2010 and was followed in the position by Joe Kearns.

Treasurer: Denis Fitzpatrick served as board Treasurer in 1936 & 1937 having served as registrar in the preceding two years (1934-35). Denis was a well known business man in Kanturk over many years having a grocery store in O’Brien St and a famous ‘ Corner Shop’ between the Square and Main St and the renowned Ice Cream factory at the rear of his O’Brien St premises.

Registrar: Denis Fitzpatrick was followed as registrar by Thomas Mullane from Kanturk club from 1936 to 1939. This writer knows little about Thomas Mullane or his family connections.

Secretary: Andy Keating of Keatings Bakery served as Duhallow GAA board Secretary in 1940/1941.

In all, the contribution of Kanturk natives to the wellbeing, development and strengthening of GAA affairs in Duhallow has contributed to the board as it is today.
