It’s playtime again as state of the art playground re-opens

- JOHN TARRANT

MILLSTREET Children took delight on the partial lifting of restrictions to allow the re-opening of its state of the art playground - only if children are supervised.

Earlier in the year, the Millstreet Town Park Committee completed a full refurbishment of the children’s playground that will benefit a growing population with a diverse array of swings, slides, climbers and other types of equipment on view.

Previously developed more than 25 years ago, those behind the project wanted to bring the playground in line with the rest of their fantastic amenity and make it a fun, healthy, inclusive and safe place for all little people.

The upgrade costed approximately €120,000 - on average the yearly income for the total running of the Town Park grounds is €15,000 (Local Lotto and club subscriptions) with annual recurring costs of a minimum of €8,000, on insurance, gym equipment maintenance and machine repairs.

A grant of €14,000 from Cork County Council has been secured subject to completion of the works. Friends of Millstreet can make a contribution by lodging directly online to Millstreet Town Park Committee back account at IBAN: IE61 BOFI 9058 0332 1050 69, BIC:BOFIIE2D, or send a cheque payable to ‘Millstreet Town Park Committee’ c/o FÁS Offices, Millstreet Community Gym, Millstreet.

Parents are reminded that a number of protocols remain in place to ensure the safety of children. Rules include the playground must be supervised by a parent or guardian at all times.

Parents or guardians are required to bring their own hand sanitiser for the cleaning of their children’s hands beforehand, at regular intervals during, and after use of the playground equipment. In the absence of such sanitation parents or guardians are requested to refrain from allowing their children use of the equipment.

It’s so important to ensure physical distancing between children and advise children to avoid touching their face, eyes, nose and mouth. Key too is that children should have regard to the safe use of equipment and to the safety of others at all times.
