CDYS there to help those with substance abuse issues and their family members

- BILL BROWNE

THE Cloyne Diocesan Youth Service (CDYS) is offering a free and confidential service to help support those with drug or alcohol problems and their families.

CDYS administrator Marion Brady said their Community Based Drugs Initiative is offered in partnership with a local advisory committee and funded by the Regional Drug and Alcohol Task Force.

“We have a network of experienced community drugs workers on hand to help in Mallow, Fermoy, Mitchelstown and Macroom. Although we are currently working remotely due to the COVID-19 restrictions, they are always on hand to offer support to individuals affected by drug or alcohol abuse and their family members,” said Marion.

“The project offers one-to-one support to those with substance abuse issues and those at risk of experimenting with alcohol or drugs. We also work alongside those in recovery, supporting them in making positive changes to their lives, assessing their needs and, where appropriate, making necessary referrals,” she added.

Marion said CDYS was also acutely aware of the impact that substance abuse can have on relatives.

“With this in mind we also offer confidential support and advice to parents, family members or other concerned people whose lives have been affected by another persons alcohol or drug misuse,” she added.

“For more information about the Community Based Drugs Initiative contact Nicola (Mallow & Mitchelstown) on 086 3836414, Kasia (Fermoy) on 086 6096874 or Kevin (Macroom) on 086 8031109. Your call will be treated in the strictest confidence,” said Marion.
