MARYMOUNT HOSPICE

As all Comhaltas activities and music and singing classes are cancelled due to covid -19,one person who couldn’t stay idle is Alan Finn. During the shutdown Alan has been busy making a solo DVD entitled “The Road to Crossfields”. This DVD is available at Casey’s shop in Freemount . All proceeds of this venture will go to Marymount Hospice who are badly in need of funds. The contribution is €20 and everything goes to the Hospice.

OLD PHOTOGRAPHS

Just a thought ,while you are confined to your home why don’t you look up your supply of old photographs and send them to us with a caption. We can send them to the weekly paper or we can put them on our parish website for posterity. The e-mail address is freemountarchive@ gmail.com. Start searching.

NEW RULES AND NEW VISITORS

We are now emerging from lockdown and it is great that we can now start using our local amenities again. Please note that all current social distancing guidelines must be obeyed in any public places at all times.

The playground is now open and we are grateful to the County Council and to the locals who cleaned and weeded the playground before it was opened. As with all County Council supported playgrounds, children using the playground must be supervised by an adult and all current social distancing guidelines must be strictly adhered to.

The walkway, adult exercise equipment, are open and a multi use sports area can be used for small groups for exercise. Social distancing must be obeyed at all times. Sports areas can be booked by contacting (083) 4589222 and the key can be collected in the shop.

We are looking forward to Freemount Playschool, Cherry Blossoms Afterschool, Freemount badminton, GAA, and Bootcamp classes that will hopefully resume in September, new groups are also welcome to book hall, as soon as social distancing allows. Contact 083 4589222.

If isolated people need support in any way they can contact (083) 4589222, the community group is still active.

Please continue to support all our local shops and all local businesses in our nearby village and towns. Every euro spent near home has huge benefits to our local economy.

As always Casey’s were such an invaluable support to Freemount village, especially in recent times. Truly many people would have been lost without them. Lockdown would have been very difficult without a shop in the village.

Now in these difficult times it is lovely to see new visitors to the area. Lately when Freemount’s Tidy Towns were adding some fabulous flowers around the village they heard that some fairies were in urgent need of a place to stay while working locally.

So Freemount’s Tidy Towns contacted the very talented Michael & Theresa O Connor who consulted with Marcus & Christian for advice and between them some fantastic fairy houses were built. Freemount village now proudly hosts a magical fairy village at the back of the 1916 Remembrance Garden. Please pay them a socially distant visit and have a peek at these gorgeous fairy houses. But please remember, no touching as the fairies wouldn’t like that.

Sincere thanks to Tidy Towns and the O’ Connors for such wonderful, ongoing commitment our village.

As soon as it’s allowed a Village Clean and Tidy Up will be organised and the Tidy Towns committee look forward to all your help and support.

The new flowers are lovely, thank you tidy towns, and the village is really showing the benefits of having Ger Farrisey’s team of Fas workers back in action again. We are very lucky and grateful to have them. Go raibh maith agaibh.
