John going 19 for 19 in aid of Marymount
THE number 19 has been constantly in the news since the Coronavirus pandemic began edging ever closer last January.
However, readers can now reference the number in an entirely new way, for all the right reasons. In fact there will be three 19s on the field of play when John Hartnett of Glash, Kiskeam, will run/walk for 19 minutes at each of the 19 GAA Pitches in Duhallow on Saturday, July 11, as a fund-raiser for Marymount Hospice.
John is well known in GAA circles as a referee over the past five years.
“I am doing this fund-raiser for Marymount Hospice. We are all aware of the great work they do every day in caring for people who are at different stages of illness. To know that these patients have the best care possible is a great comfort for families at such difficult times,” he said.
John explained that a family member spent time in the hospice, and he experienced at first hand the wonderful work the staff do.
“All of our front-line staff have been working under extreme stress and risk, so I decided I would try to help and support them in whatever way I can,” he said.
John’s aim is to incorporate all 19 clubs in his fund-raiser, which will kick-off at midnight in Glenlara and finish at 6pm the following evening in Boherbue.
John welcomes support from onlookers and anyone who would like to complete the laps with him at approximately the following times: Glenlara (midnight), Rockchapel (1am), Newmarket (2am), Meelin (3am), Freemount (4am), Tullylease (5am), Lismire (6am), Kilbrin (7am), Castlemagner (8am), Kanturk (9am), Banteer (10am), Dromtariffe (11am), St John’s (noon), Millstreet (1pm), Cullen (2pm), Knocknagree (3pm), Ballydesmond (4pm), Kiskeam (5pm) and finishing in Boherbue at (6pm).
