ON Monday morning the buzz around Mallow increased somewhat with the opening of barbers, hairdressers, bookie shops, restaurants, coffee docks and pubs with social distancing being a priority and top of the agenda.

Barber Danny Langford opened his premises in O’Brien Street at 9.30am with Peter O’Sullivan being his first customer in over three months. All restrictions were adhered to and Danny admitted he was delighted to be back in the business.

Face masks were also a priority for both customer and barber while Danny also donned a face shield. Customers have to book their place and Danny said he had a full list of long haired clients until Thursday (today).

Philip Landy enjoyed a cup of coffee at the Hibernian Hotel restaurant on Monday morning and was looking forward to other visits.

St. Mary’s Church had its first 10am daily Mass on Monday where worshippers were also able to receive holy communion.

A handful of food serving pubs also opened their doors in town on Monday and, by all accounts, trade was brisk throughout the day and evening with customers taking advantage of a little socialising and a drink to go with it.
