-

MITCHELSTOWN Group Partners in Learning (Pil) had a very successful funbdraiser last week.

In all over €15,000 was raised. There was a virtual walk of 10,000 kilometres from Mitchelstown ‘ to’ Torono in Uganda.

The charity raised a phenomenal €15,324.54 which will be used for the relief of hunger in Torono for those who were in need of food assistance due to the Covid 19 crisis.

The event involved a walk, cycle, or run effort over a 24 hour period from noon on Saturday to noon on Sunday with people clocking up anything from 5kms to 25 kms each around Mitchelstown, around Ireland and around the globe.

The continuous 24 hour thread was maintained despite the thunder and lightning that struck.

(Pil) is described as a grassroots approach to community development.

It bypasses the traditional donor aid dependency and directly links communities actively involved in community development to empower each other through shared experiences and learning towards mutual gain.
