Mass will again be open to the public this week on Thursday, Friday and Saturday in Boherbue.

However, due to the Covid-19 the numbers attending at any one time have to be restricted to facilitate social distancing. The system adopted will be different townlands each night, all Masses at 7.30 p.m. and all fulfilling your weekend obligations. The areas are divided as follows.

Thursday: Village, Laharn, McAuliffe Ave, Lisrobin, Ruhillbeg, Islandave.

Friday: Gurteeragh, Drominargle, Clongeel, Knockmanaugh, Killoseera, Acres, Gortatebee, Keelnahulla, Knocklaugh, GlountaneMcCarthy, Limefield, Knocknacurra, Tureenavoscane East, Maule, Ballyhoulihan, Derrishal, Derrinatubrid.

Saturday: Gneeves, Derryleigh, Lamanaughm Islandbrack, Lisheenafula, Aneenagh.

Ushers will be on hand to show people to their seat and your co-operation is requested.

The seated areas are clearly marked thanks to the trojan work of Pastoral Council chairman Ned Vaughan and his willing helpers Emma and Seán.

The church will be ‘fogged’ after each ceremony with a special machine acquired for the job.

Hand sanitisers are available at all the church doors and you are requested to use them when both entering and exiting the church.

The baskets will not be passed around but a collection basket will be placed at the church entrance.

Holy Communion will be available and here again you are asked to follow the instructions of the ushers. This is all new to everybody. It will take time to get accustomed to it – give yourself that time.

SPICE SHOP

Today, Thursday, July 2, at 11 a.m. the doors officially open in the first ever Indian Spice Shop in County Cork. The venue is the Indian Yoga Centre opposite the church in Boherbue and it will be open Monday to Saturday 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. and 11.45 p.m. to 4 p.m. on Sundays.

Available will be both whole and ground spices, a wide variety of curry powders, ready to eat Indian snacks plus fresh Indian fruit and vegetables.

To enable customers to familiarise themselves with these ingredients, Indian cookery classes will be available to introduce the authentic Indian tasty foods for the community with a wide range of choices for vegetarians, non-vegetarians and vegans. Sounds exciting.

SIXTH CLASS GRADUATION

Boherbue sixth class pupils were treated to a welcome surprise on Friday night last. Having been invited to meet at the Comprehensive School entrance, little did they know that a drive through parade led by local garda Charlie McCarthy with sirens and beacons blazing was planned to salute the class of 2020 as they embark on their next paragraph in life.

From the Comprehensive School to the Grotto, parents and neighbours and friends were on hand to salute these young boys and girls who missed out on their normal graduation ceremony due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

Afterwards, school principal Marie Casey individually greeted her pupils in the Pearse Memorial Hall as they were presented with their certs, a class photo and a ‘hoodie’.

The Parents Countil had prepared some light refreshments all adding up to a memorable occasion for a group who thought they had missed out on a final get-together.
