Kanturk’s back in action

-

LAST month saw Kanturk Mart hold its first auction sale after some ten weeks of appointment-only sales due to the COVID-19 restrictions, and mart management said it is delighted to be back to some sense of normality, albeit under strict conditions.

“Our first auction was an uncertain time for us all as we were unsure how our customers would adapt to our new socially distant layout,” said Michelle Hallihan of Kanturk Mart following the June 9 return. “We need not have worried as our customers have been outstanding in supporting our new layout.

“It is great to have our customers back at ring side again even though it is slightly different for them. They can no longer huddle together discussing animal weights and prices, but the craic and banter is still present.”

Both the mart’s calf and cattle sales are bring held in its main ring, which can hold a maximum of 43 people under current retrictions.

“We do our very best to accommodate as many customers as we can by running the sales at different times,” Michelle said.

“Our calf sale starts at 10am followed by our dry cow and cattle sale at 12.30pm. Customers can only attend the sale if they have pre-booked with us here in the Mart, which in turn allows us to manage the numbers present at any one time.

“We will be holding the first of our weanling show and sales in August, with date to be confirmed.

“We’d like to take this opportunity to thank our loyal customers and wonderful staff for their patience and understanding and ask you to continue to follow HSE guidelines and stay safe.”
