Fundraising drive needed for Kanturk playground

- BY FERGUS DENNEHY

THE organising team behind the fund-raising drive for the new Kanturk playground have found their fund-raising options limited due to COVID-19.

The project has funding from both Cork County Council and IRD Duhallow to the tune of €85,000, but fundraising is required to make up the final €12,000 needed for the project.

Frank Healy is one of the men behind the fund-raiser – which needs to raise that €12,000 over the next six weeks – and he said that the ideas that they had planned have had to be shelved.

Speaking to The Corkman this week, Frank said that it will be a busy few weeks ahead.

“We’re just about to launch a GoFundMe page for the project and we’ve got a few bucket collection days planned for a few Saturdays over the next few weeks as well,” he said.

“The first one is planned for July 18. It’ll be from around 10am on a Saturday until around lunch time, and we’re hoping that will get the ball rolling.

“We’re very limited in what we can do. We’ve known about this project since last year and we had a few things in the pipeline, but even small things like coffee mornings, they are all out the window now,” he continued.

“We’ve got about six weeks to raise the money because the contractors who will be working on the playground, they have pencilled it in for around the end of August. We’ll need to have the money in place then by that time, really,” said Frank.

Having witnessed the huge generosity of people who have donated to fund-raisers for different causes over the years, Frank is hoping that this same generosity is there to help the playground dream become a reality for Kanturk.
