New podcast steps back in time

- JOHN TARRANT

A NEW Duhallow GAA podcast ‘Crossing the Line’ is generating huge interest locally as it takes a trip down memory lane and looks back at significant moments in the Gaelic games scene with familiar faces of hurling and football.

Those behind the initiative are Timmie Murphy (Lyre), David Quinlan (Newmarket) and Robert Stack (Newmarket). The series will last for 10 episodes initially and it is hoped that ‘Crossing the Line’ will cross into the future too.

The podcast is based around Robert Stack interviewing a retired GAA player from the Barony of Duhallow each Sunday.

“In the chat, we revisit the career of a former great from a different club every week. Discussed are the player’s career, looking at their achievements, their club’s fortunes and then we run through a series of questions where the guest recalls their most memorable highlight, their biggest regret and much more,” said Robert.

“The guest picks the six best players they played with from their time on the GAA fields around the division and county and remembers the great coaches, team-mates and influences on their time as a player,” Robert added.

The show is sponsored by

Dairy & Engineering Services in Charleville who are a steel stockholder and material supply company (www. dairyandeng.ie). Dave Stack (Meelin) and Colin Stack (Newmarket) who both played GAA in Duhallow have kindly sponsored set-up costs and covered all production and release fees for the podcast as the initiative is entirely voluntary.

To date, players such as Dermot O’ Sullivan (Cullen), Tom O’ Mahoney (Meelin), Pat Gayer (Castlemagner), Conor Buckley (Banteer) and Jerry Pat O’Leary(Millstreet) have recalled great days from the past.

And more of the same can be expected from this week’s guest, Dave Riordan, the former Kanturk and Duhallow star who enjoyed terrific achievements within the division and county.
