Public return to churches to celebrate Mass

- TIMMY LYNCH timmylynch@eircom.net

THE re-opening of Kanturk Church last Sunday 5th July for the first public Mass since the lockdown was ended was a deeply joyous occasion for the parish.

Hopefully, Fr. John will be resuming public Masses in the parish at the end of July, and plans will be made to increase the number of weekend public Masses.

In the meantime, Fr Toby will continue with one public Mass in Kanturk on Sundays at 10am on Sunday 12th July and Sunday 19th July.

The numbers are limited to 100 approximately in the church, so for the moment places will have to be booked by ringing the Kanturk Parish Office during opening hours (9.30am to 12.30pm Wednesday to Friday and 9.30 to 12.30pm and 2pm to 5.30pm Tueday only) but people without bookings are welcome to come to the carpark and listen to the Mass on radio or watch on Churchservices.tv/Kanturk on their phones, and Holy Communion will be distributed in the car park also.

Fr. Toby will also continue celebrating one public Mass in Castlemagner on Saturdays at 7.30pm. Public Mass will resume in St. Joseph’s, Lismire on Sunday 19th July with Mass at 11am.

Details of the resumption of a number of daily Masses in the parishes will be announced shortly.

MASS IN CASTLEMAGNER

Last week saw a great attendance as mass resumed to a new normal in Castlemagner. It was great to see so many back and celebrating mass as a community and meeting up with old friends.

The public celebration of mass will continue in St Mary’s Church, Castlemagner on Saturday nights at 7 30pm. In accordance with HSE guidelines and for the safety of all concerned, the following guidelines are necessary and are recommended by the Catholic Diocese:

Please sanitise your hands on the way into and leaving the church. This unit is wall mounted on your left at the entrance to the church and social distancing measures are in place and there is a one way traffic system in the church.

Every second seat in the Church will be in use, two per seat. Families can be seated together in one seat.

It is also recommended that Communion be received in the hand and again it’s a one way system, up the centre aisle and down the side, preferably starting from the top of the church down again; stewards will be there to help out.

Ushers will be available to help out in allaying fears anyone coming to Mass may have.

St Mary’s Church will be open every Wednesday and Saturday from 10am until 12 noon for personal prayer only and notices will be in place on these days as movement will be restricted to the Edel Quinn Shrine area of the Church.
