KANTURK MART SLOWLY GETS BACK TO BUSINESS
We here in Kanturk Mart are delighted to be slowly getting back to normal or whatever normal is.
On March 24th with the announcement of the lock down, we like all other businesses were dealt a serious blow. While we acknowledge it was the right decision, as people’s health is most important, the timing did not suit the farming community or the mart business as a huge percentage of animals are bought and sold during these months.
After a short discussion we decided that we would do our best to help out our loyal customers.
Little did we know that for the next ten weeks instead of our usual Tuesday Sale we would be putting cattle through our Mart 3 days a week without an auction system.
On Tuesdays we arranged to have calves in the mart with our auctioneer doing valuations.
Wednesdays were full of all types of cattle and Thursdays we had dry cows and factory cattle.
Instead of having ten sales for ten weeks, we had thirty sales.
Thankfully, even though it was not ideal, we achieved 65% through put.
Over the last few weeks, we are coming back to normal with our auctioneers on the podium with a very limited number of buyers allowed entry to the sales ring.
All people visiting the mart must book in prior to sale day.
We here in the mart over the years have being trying to encourage people to come to the mart from the social aspect and also to achieve the best prices for their cattle and now we are asking people to stay at home unless you have business to do. We hope that everything will be back to normal in the not too distant future.
We would like to thank all our customers for their patience and loyalty during these uncertain times. Unfortunately, we lost some great friends and customers of the mart since lock down began and we would like to extend our deepest sympathies to all their families.
A sincere thank you to Mart Management, Office Staff, Yard Staff, Auctioneers and everyone who helped us in anyway and continue to do so while we continue to navigate our way through these uncertain times.
