MADNESS IN MALLOW

-

PASSERS-BY were left in disgust in Mallow on Tuesday when a pair of thugs attacked a car with iron bars in the centre of the town in broad daylight.

The vicious incident happened just after noon on a very busy Bridge Street in the town when, amidst heavy traffic, two individuals got out of another, oncoming car, before marching up to the victim’s car and began lashing at it with their bars. The car could not get away as it was in dense traffic at the time.

The car was being driven by a young man who had his infant son in the back seat, and while he was badly shaken and the child was upset, neither sustained any serious injuries in the attack.

On Wednesday morning, gardaí raided a house in the Mallow area and arrested a 20-year-old man and a 16-year-old youth for questioning about the attack which has shocked the local community.

Gardaí believe the incident is related to a dispute between two families in Mallow and, in a statement, said that they were able to identify the culprits after the attack was captured on camera and posted online. The video posted online, which clearly shows the attack, quite quickly went viral across the internet.

Meanwhile, Gardaí have renewed their appeal for witnesses in relation to a serious assault that occurred in a rural part of North Cork last Tuesday week.

On the evening in question, a woman in her 20’s was walking along the road between Buttevant and Liscarroll when the driver of a car stopped and began speaking to her. The man then proceeded to assault the woman before leaving the scene.

Gardaí have appealed for anyone who may have been travelling along the R522 Buttevant to Liscarroll road between 6.30pm and 9.30pm that evening to contact them.

A NEW 12 track CD album by local musicians Johnny Bongos Horgan and Eoin Turner will be launched at 6pm on Friday, September 25 at the Plaza in Mallow.

These two local musicians are well known in Mallow and throughout the landemic have entertained people for free in the street; and the launch will be staged in similar, socially distanced fashion.

All are welcome to the launch, socially distnaced, of course.
