Senior and Junior Wins

MACROOM’S MSL sides had two fine league wins last weekend. After a few narrow recent defeats, the senior side had a thumping 8-0 win over visitors Youghal Utd at Murrayfield. Macroom were three up at half-time with John James Healy, Dylan Twomey and Craig Ronan on target.

The onslaught continued as Twomey completed his hat trick. Szymon Sanetra, Keith Holden and Mark Corrigan completed the scoring.

Meanwhile, Macroom Juniors travelled to Leghanamore and came away with a thrilling 4-3 win v Pearse Celtic. Trailing 2-0 at half-time, a second-half full of desire and commitment saw the visitors turn the tide.

James O’Connor was on target and an excellent defence marshalled by Steven Crowley and Gordon O’Sullivan provided a great platform. Eolan O’Leary popped up with a fine header to level the tie. O’Connor then got his second goal as the visitors hit the front. Pearse responded with a fortuitous effort to level matters. Dec O’Riordan was instrumental in setting up O’Leary to seal the three points.

Round Up

The U17 girls played their first league game away to Springfield. A few quick goals were the undoing of Macroom but it was a good performance with Emma Cahill and Nicole McCarthy having fine games.

The U15 Premier girls also headed for Carrigaline, played very well but were beaten 4-2. Excellent goals came from Captain Joanne Kelly and Caoimhe O’Brien.

The U11 girls played their first game at Murrayfield in an impressive outing. The U13 girls played Fermoy and had a brilliant 4-1 win.

In the U17 boys league, Macroom beat St. John Boscos 5-0 at Dungourney. Jack Martin was in great form and he scored on 29, 54 and 67 minutes to secure a hat trick. Dylan Molyneaux made it four and it was 5-0 when Jack Martin hit his fourth goal.

The U14 boys hammered Mallow 7-1 at the Town Park.
