Hurlers face Charleville for place in county final

-

ALL roads lead to Mallow (if you have a prized ticket to gain entry) on Saturday 26th September for the clash at 2pm of Kanturk and Charleville in the semi-final of the Cork Senior ‘A’ Hurling Championship 2020.

Both sides met twice in the 2017 Premier Intermediate Championship with Kanturk winning on both occasions at both Kilbrin and Milford before going on to capturing the county championship followed by Munster and All Ireland honours. Saturday’s encounter will be keenly contested and Kanturk will be hoping to maintain their championship charge.

Premier Intermediate Football:

Kanturk progressed to the semi-final of the Cork PIFC by virtue of a well merited 0-19 to 0-08 quarter final victory over Aghada at Ovens on Saturday last.

Kanturk opened brightly and had four points on the board in the opening quarter and maintained their advantage throughout the tie, having the luxury of emptying the bench to give players all important playing time as they ran out comfortable winners to set up a semi-final encounter with Cill na Martra, which is fixed for Millstreet on Saturday 3rd October at 3pm.

Minor Hurling:

It was a case of so near but yet so far for Kanturk Minor hurlers when they lost out to St Colman’s (Cloyne/Russle Rvs) in the Cork Prem2 U18 hurling final at Pairc Ui Rinn on Thursday last 17th September.

Kanturk opened brightly but spurned scoring chances in the opening five minutes before St Colmans goaled against the run of play.

Kanturk were 2-02 in arrears before they got on the score sheet but had closed the gap to five points by the short whistle.

When Kanturk first took a one point lead midway through the second half and again drew level entering the closing few minutes it looked as if they would close out the game with victory but it was the east Cork side, who pointed the winning scores and took the title.

The total of 18 wides built up by Kanturk over the hour tells its own story, and if a quarter of those chances were taken, it could have been such a different story for our team. The final score was Kanturk 0-15 St Colmans 2-11.

U16 Hurling: Kanturk and Charleville U16 hurlers will clash at Newmarket on this Satur-day 26th September in the Rebel Og North U16 Div1 Hurling Plate final with a 12 noon start.

Duhallow Senior footballers overcame the challenge of Valley Rovers in the Cork county championship quarter final on Sunday last 20th September at Pairc Ui Rinn coming from be-hind to fashion a 0-16 to 0-15 victory. Kanturk’s John McLoughlin and Paul Walsh both saw game time.

Duhallow await a semi-final meeting with Nemo Rangers or Ballincollig on Sunday 4th October.

Results: Rebel Og Cork U18 Prem2 HC Final, Kanturk 0-15 St Colmans 2-11. Rebel Og North U16 Div2 FL, Kanturk 2-11 Duarigle Gales 8-12. Cork PIFC, Kanturk 0-19 Aghada 0-08.
