Mallow and Glanworth win through to meet in Junior ‘B’ final

Mallow 1-9 Mitchelsto­wn 0-6

A PHYSICALLY stronger Mallow side proved too good for Mitchelsto­wn in the Ballylough Milling JBFC(2) semi-final at Mitchelsto­wn on Monday night. From the start the winners did well. Sean Hayes opened the scoring with an early point. Good play by Bill Myers and Charlie Carroll led to a goal by Peter Attridge. ‘Town had two wides. In the 12th minute Mallow’s Richard Willis and Peter Attridge worked well for Michael Duignan who pointed under pressure. Peter Attridge followed with a pointed free as Mallow led 1-3 to 0-0 at the water break.

On the restart a free for Mitchelsto­wn by Liam Keane was denied by the post.

Good play by Eoin Burke and James Mullins led to an opening point by Aidan Donegan. Mallow continued to do well. Sean Hayes pointed. Bill Myers made a good run up field linking up with Sean Hayes who placed Charlie Carroll for a fine point 1-5 to 0-1. Fionn O’Neill pointed from long range. Liam Keane pointed a ‘Town free after a foul on James Gubbins. At half time the winners led 1-6 to 0-2.

Mitchelsto­wn created a lot of chances in the third quarter. Sean Howard pointed two frees with Liam Keane also on target as they cut the lead 1-7 to 0-6. Mallow finished out the game very solid. Peter Attridge and Sean Hayes had a point each as they advanced to the final against Glanworth by a six-point margin. Glanworth 2-10 Kildorrery 1-10

GLANWORTH had a goal to spare over Kildorrery in the Ballylough Milling JBFC(2) semi-final at Ballyhooly on Sunday. The winners had their two goals in the opening seven minutes. First Emmet Sheehan placed Jack Blackburne who netted. Their second goal by Aaron Noonan came after good play by Hugh O’Neill.

Kildorrery recovered well but found it hard to make progress against a solid Glanworth defence. They had their first score in the 11th minute when Sean Watson placed Liam Kelly for a point. Sean Watson followed with a pointed free just before the water break. Hugh O’Neill pointed for the winners. The ‘Hill followed with points by Mattie Walsh-O’Grady and Stephen Coughlan. Jesse Walsh had a Glanworth point before Emmet Sheehan cut through from the wing and punched over. Both sides exchanged 3 points before the break as Glanworth held an interval lead 2-6 to 0-7.

Early on the resumption a foul on Ciaran Murphy led to a pointed free by Liam Cotter. Kildorrery cut into the two goal lead. Sean Watson pointed a free with Stephen Coughlan adding a free. The lead was down to a goal when Sean Watson pointed a free after impressive Timmy O’Sullivan was fouled 2-7 to 0-10. Just on the call of the water break Glanworth had a Jack Flavin point after good play by Michael Blackburne. On the restart Jack Flavin pointed a ‘45. Sean Cunningham goaled for Kildorrery after good play by Pierce Pigott, Shane Walsh and Jerry McCarthy. Kildorrery tried very hard to get on terms. Glanworth had the final score by Jack Flavin in the 59th minute. They will now meet Mallow in the final.
