Grab yourself a grant

-

ALTHOUGH many people have the desire to switch to a more sustainable energy method, they can sometimes be put off by the high costs involved in making the switch.

Thankfully, there are solutions to this problem with homeowners now able to avail of grants from the Sustainable Energy Authority of Ireland (SEAI) that can help them to finally take the leap to a more sustainable and environmentally friendly energy method.

Just some of the grants that are currently available to homeowners through the SEAI are an insulation grant, a heat pump system grant, a heating control grant and a solar water heating grant – the finer details of which can all be found over on the SEAI website under the ‘Home Energy’ section.

Taking the insulation grant as an example, did you know that a home can lose anywhere from between 20 – 30 per cent of its heat through the walls? This number can rise even further if they are not insulated. Reducing heat loss through your walls will reduce your energy consumption.

As you will be using your heating less, you will also cut down on your greenhouse gas emissions.

Through the SEAI, homeowners can apply for grants that cover cavity, internal and extrernal wall insulation, as well as attic insulation. Grant values of €400 are available for attic and cavity wall insulation.

For bigger jobs then, grants to the value of up to €6000 are available for the external wall insulation of a detached house.

Applying for a grant could not be easier, the simple stepby-step process is available to read on the SEAI website who will be happy to chat to you through the process over the phone.
