EDDIE DUNBAR HELPS TEAM WIN AT TOUR DE LA PROVENCE

Eddie Dunbar ended his long wait for competitive action last Thursday when he lined up in France for the four-day Tour de la Provence as part of a very strong Ineos Grenadiers line-up.

The 24-year old was one of two Irishmen in the race alongside compatriot Nicolas Roche (Team DSM) for what was a massive performance after a bruising time with injuries last year for Eddie.

On each of the 4 stages Eddie took the fight to the other teams and especially in stage 3 on Sat when he hit the front on the lower slopes of Mont Ventoux to what became an Ineos Grenadiers master class in climbing and tactics.

At the end of the stage it was his team mate Ivan Sosa who took victory for Eddies team with his team mate Egan Bernal in 3rd and Julian Alaphilippe in 2nd.

Eddie took it up first on the climb, with 8km to go, and stayed on the front setting a high pace in order to catch the remaining riders up the road from the early breakaway and others who had attacked at the start of the ascent.

Dunbar did his job in mopping up all of those ahead before his team mate Carlos Rodriguez took over; the young Spanish rider pounding away on the front for about 3km and ripping the field apart.

When Eddie pulled over with 4.8km to go there were fewer than 20 riders left and Eddies work was done when his team mate Ivan Sosa attacked, with Egan Bernal leaving it to the others to chase.

Ivan Sosa went on to win the stage and lead the race by 19 seconds going into the last stage. Again on Sundays final stage Eddie showed his metal with his team and kept a high pace to defend the yellow jersey for Ivan Sosa. Well done Eddie and 2021 will be your year!

Bishop Crean, in a letter published before Christmas has said “The pandemic poses difficulty for practically everybody; psychologically, socially and financially” and this continues to be the case. For parishes, not having a congregation at Sunday Mass has meant no regular weekly collections for the upkeep of the churches of the parish, while the regular bills of the parishe still have to be paid. However, many parishioners, who are in a position to do so, have still been making their offerings to the parish. All such offerings, and those for the priests, are very much appreciated and hereby acknowledged, as are all the contributions people have made down through the years.

If you are in a position to keep up your regular weekly contributions, it would be deeply appreciated if you could do so. To facilitate this, the following is in place: A collection box (for envelopes or any other offerings for both parishes) is now in place inside

the back (car-park) entrance to Twohig’s SuperValu, Kanturk, accessible during the supermarket opening hours. It is located on the wall between the basket station and the noticeboard. We are very grateful to Michael and Noreen Twohig for facilitating this.

A collection box at the back of the church in Castlemagner is also available. All boxes are emptied regularly. You can drop envelopes etc. (for both parishes) through Fr. Toby or Fr. John’s letterboxes at any time. You can contact the parish office during opening times to drop envelopes or offerings in there.

Lastly, many parishes receive regular contributions via standing order, and many find this very convenient. If you would like to use this method please contact the parish office.

Not just the financial contribution, but the extra effort that is required to make this contribution while being unable to come together for public Masses in the absence of congregations, is gratefully acknowledged and deeply appreciated. We thank you in anticipation of your response to support your parish at this critical time.
