COMMUNITY CENTRE

As you are aware, given the new guidelines in place, Kilbrin Social Club is now closed again for all activities. This could last quite a while and we will of course be observing all of the government guidelines.

USED CLOTHES COLLECTION

Kilbrin National School Parents Association are having a used clothes collection to raise funds.

The funds raised will be used to help fund school activities & facilities throughout the year. So why not have your spring clean out and bag up all those unwanted items and drop them to the Community Centre.

Kilbrin Community Council are supporting this by providing storage facilities for the clothes. You can drop them any time to the outside toilet for the moment which is on the school side of the centre. They will be moved regularly to the storage area in the Centre. Don’t forget to pass the word around to family/friends/ neighbours.

Any questions please contact Parents Association Chairperson, Una Cremin on 087-9286180. If anyone is unsure where to drop please contact Ben on

087 2801908, or Paulina on 086 4097267.

SCOIL EOIN BAISTE

Many thanks and congratulations to the national school in Kilbrin for their initiatives keeping the children involved.

For those not in the know, the online classes and home schooling are going very well. Children are becoming very computer literate which will stand to them in later years. It is the interaction though that makes the difference. They are getting a chance to speak with their teachers and their classmates and this is something that they really look forward to.

While home schooling is tough on any family it is made a whole lot easier when you know the teachers are helping as much as is possible.

Feedback on the work submitted is always prompt and the children’s reaction to it is instant, and very gratifying to see. It is the small things that matter at times like these so congratulations again to all the staff and hopefully the kids will be back in person in

the very near future.

Of course the school and staff have done far more than arranging the home schooling. Every week there is something new to look forward to. Each child received a personalised valentines card and they have been asked to send in pictures and videos every week. These are put together and posted for everyone to see.

The children get a big uplift from seeing all of these and none more so than the Jerusalema Dance from last week. This was put together as a very fitting tribute to the late dancing Mary Niall O’Sullivan, and what a brilliant tribute. There is no doubt that she is smiling down at this and she would be so proud of the effort everyone put in and the joy it brought.

At time of writing, this dance tribute had around six thousand views which is incredible. Again great work to all involved and on behalf of the whole community a huge thank you to the staff, teachers, students and parents.

REMOTE WORKING/ STUDYING

A grant has been approved from IRD for a remote working/ studying office in the Community Centre with two work-spaces and a commercial printer. Once restrictions are eased we plan to work on it and have it up and running by late Summer. We hope this will be of great benefit to the community when it is up and running and will keep you informed of the progress.

If you are interested in using the facility please contact Ben on 087 2801908 or Paulina on 086 4097267.

WALKING

As the weather improves there are more and more people walking and the Kilbrin area offers beautiful walking. As someone who walks every day there are two things I have noticed. The first is in relation to drivers. We have, in the past asked for people to slow down, especially near the school etc.

In my recent experience I have noticed that the vast majority of drivers have slowed down a lot and are generally driving carefully. For this, thank you, the roads are much safer to walk on. We would ask that as the spring progresses and restrictions are still in place that you continue to show respect for all the people out walking.

The numbers will increase even more as the weather improves and as this is many peoples only journey outside of their homes on a daily basis, we would ask that we all make an effort to ensure it is safe for them.

LITTER

The second thing I noticed unfortunately is not a positive item. There is still a huge amount of litter being thrown out on the side of the road. It is only when you walk that you get to see the quantity of it. We would plead with people to stop this practice. It is a habit that you will not be able to justify to your children in years to come, and certainly not to their children.

The Community Council & Village Renewal group have in the past arranged for collection days where bags and gloves are provided and any litter picked up will be disposed of. We hope to start this again in the coming weeks and will let you know when dates are arranged.

Kilbrin Community would like to offer our sincere condolences to the family of Kathleen O’Keeffe (née Conran), Gurteenard, Kanturk. May she rest in peace.
