Trocaire, this year, has introduced a new format, for their financial fund-raising campaigns. Trocaire, in conjunction with the many dioceses, of the Catholic Church, are promoting a “Virtual Walk” in the South Sudan Region. PANDEMIC ALERT

With the Covid 19-Pandemic still raging, worldwide, and the new strain of this deadly disease, also on the rampage, world-wide, there is the emminent enforcement, of new restrictions, not alone, in Ireland, but also worldwide.

Everybody has to be more compliant and adhere vehimently to all regulations. And restrictions enforced. No matter how severe and restrictive. Let us all pull together to combatand defeat this virus.

HERITAGE AND CULTURE

The local Buttevant Heritage Committee, are committed, to promoting the Culture, Heritage and History, of Buttevant, and its’ environs. Over the past few weeks, a select number, of new signage, has bee erected, at various locations, within the town area.

These signs, have information regarding the many historical, and heritage, locations, in Buttevant, and also contain the relevant information, regarding the many places, and buildings. The signs are eye-catching, appealing, and will, no doubt, attract much attention, from local residents, and the passing, and tourist, footfall.

Well done, to all concerned, and their many sponsors, on their injenuity, and concern, for local folklore.

COVID-19 RESTRICTIONS

Many of the activities of many clubs and organisations, recently suspended due to the prevailing pandemic, have again been curtailed. Please consult your relevant organisation locally and also search your organisations’ social media and/ Facebook.

All vulnerable age groups, and the public, in general, have returned to further severe lockdowns, in the Irish Republic. At present, the current situation, is being reviewed, and could be re-arranged, if the public conduct situation, does not adhere to regulations enforced

VOLUNTARY HELP/ PARTICIPATION

Buttevant Community Council, is asking local residents, who may have a Community Tree or Flower/Seat Display adjacent to their house, dwelling or business, would they, if possible, or when convenient, to them, to water the trees, or plants, and keep their area, tidy, and presentable, to make our town, viable, attractive to the passing footfall, and to possibly, new residents, or potential businesses, and development. Your help will be greatly appreciated.

VANDALISM

Vandalism has become a regular happening, in all our lives, and areas, these days. There are regular occurrences, of varying forms, not alone in larger towns, and cities, but in local villages,,and towns, in all our lives. Buttevant has not escaped, the new phenomenon, and public fixtures, and buildings, have become victims of untold and unnecessary vandalism. These acts happen, at various times of the day, and night, and show no respect , for public or ,private property, and also have no respect for life, or limb. We all need to be more vigilant, and report any unusual sightings, of wrong doing, and report these actions, to the relevant authority. All vehicles, and properties, should be checked, and secured, before we retire, for the night, or vacate our homes, for any length -oftime. Information received will be treated, in the strictest confidence, and the sender will not be identified.

BUTTEVANT COMMUNITY

Litter is still a problem, in the town, with no respect being shown, with the depositing, of litter, in all areas. The Community Council, is in contact with Cork County Council, with the view of having , at least, a twice-weekly “street-sweep”, and general landscape improvement, and also, the possibility of having a “litter warden”, patrolling the town area, and environs, on certain days, of the week.

Some dog owners, are still oblivious, when it comes to cleaning-up, when their canine, and feline, pets, have deposited, their “pooh-droppings”, on the footpaths, and walkways, within the town. It takes very little time to gather up the animal residue, and take it home with you, and your pets. The droppings are unsightly, and can cause pedestrians, young and not-so-young, to have an unexpected fall, when the residue is stepped on. Do take care, and be aware, of the dangers, your pets’ depositing can cause.

SOCCER CLUB

Buttevant Soccer Club promotes a weekly local lottery draw to help finance the clubs’ expenses and activities. The winning or sharing of the substantial monetary jackpot rests on the choice of four lucky numbers to match the four lucky numbers drawn on draw night. A new jackpot of €9500 can now be won by entering the draw. The amount will continue to rise until won by some lucky entrant. The draw takes place weekly on Thursday night at an appointed local public venue. Your support is greatly appreciated.

BE VIGILANT

Following breakins and robberies locally we would all do well to be on high alert and vigilant regarding our properties and neighbourhood. We should also be attentive to our elderly residents and living alone sick and infirm neighbours.

There is a CCTV system within the town but it does not cover all visible residential areas and is only accessible to some appointed persons. The majority of people also find that CCTV is an invasion of a persons private and personal persona. Crime is no longer committed during the hours of darkness and the majority of incidents happen during daylight hours.

We should be alert to and conscious of suspicious persons acting suspiciously and also be aware of unusual activities and suspicious vehicles operating in all areas. Always report whatever persons or unusual happenings you may perceiveor observe to the relevant authorities.

SVP HELPLINE

Buttevant St Vincent de Paul has a dedicated helpline for those who may need assistance to provide for themselves or their families. Please contact 0860209477 in strictest confidence.
