All dressed up with nowhere to go... Rory’s groomsmen

-

RORY MCILROY said it was posting the invitations last week that gave him cold feet and prompted him to call of his wedding to Caroline Wozniacki.

But we can reveal that the wedding plans were far more advanced than that.

The Diary has learned that Caroline had already picked out her dream bridesmaids’ dresses and Rory’s groomsmen had even been fitted for the suits.

Sources tell us that planning for the wedding was way ahead of schedule until Rory’s shock announcement on Wednesday.

‘The bridesmaids’ dresses had been picked and the best men were fitted for their suits in New York just two weeks ago,’ said one source.

‘Everything was planned so it’s a big shock.’

Indeed, before the news that the Wozzilroy wedding was off both Caroline and Rory moved to deny reports that their big day had been organised for November in New York.

But it seems that these reports were not far off the mark as the wedding party were already booted and suited.

In his dramatic statement, Rory said: ‘There is no right way to end a relationship that has been so important to two people. The problem is mine.

‘The wedding invitations issued at the weekend made me realise that I wasn’t ready for all that marriage entails.

‘I wish Caroline all the happiness she deserves and thank her for the great times we’ve had. I will not be saying anything more about our relationship in any setting,’ the 25-year-old Co. Down golfer added.
