How Winnie the Pooh may help Domhnall land an Oscar
FROM Star Wars to Winnie the Pooh... and Domhnall Gleeson’s latest TV project has received the endorsement of the magazine Vanity Fair.
What makes this even more remarkable is the fact that the movie, Goodbye Christopher Robin, hasn’t even begun shooting and won’t be released until late next year. Domhnall, right, is to play AA Milne, creator of the beloved children’s character, in the film about the author’s relationship with his son. Margot Robbie will play Milne’s wife, Daphne.
An article in the current issue of Vanity Fair regarding the project is headlined ‘Awards Season Darling Domhnall Gleeson to Get a Real Shot at Oscar’, and it is full of praise for the actor. It reads: ‘Domhnall Gleeson, who grew up in the spotlight of his actor father Brendan Gleeson, might certainly have an insight or two into the life of Christopher Robin Milne.
‘But it’s entirely possible that this biopic will only touch on the knottier side of the Milne legacy. Still, whether sanitised and heartwarming or more complex, both Goodbye Christopher Robin and Domhnall Gleeson seem as though they’ll have a real shot at being part of the Oscar conversation in 2018.’ Last year, Domhnall starred in three Oscar-nominated films – Brooklyn, The Revenant and Star Wars: The Force Awakens.
He has a number of films due out over the next two years, including Mena with Tom Cruise, and Crash Pad with Christina Applegate. He’s currently shooting Star Wars: Episode VIII in which he returns as the villainous General Hux.
