EMMA WATSON ‘I’ve been discovering so much I’ve felt like my head was about to explode,’ says Harry Potter star Emma Watson when discussing her voracious reading with the 136,000 followers of her online club, Our Shared Shelf. Watson launched the feminist book club at the start of the year and she and group members discuss a book every two months. Broadcaster Kenny’s Eason Book Club is a gem, with witty and insightful contributions from his panellists, Mrs Brown’s Boys star Rory Cowan, singer Brian Kennedy and former Fianna Fáil minister Mary O’Rourke. Recommended reading The current book of the month is Nine Folds Make a Paper Swan, the fourth novel from Ruth Gilligan, which is about Jewish refugees fleeing the European pogroms who mistakenly disembark in Cork instead of New York. 3. REESE WITHERSPOON
The Hollywood star has a knack for anticipating bestsellers: Gillian Flynn’s Gone Girl and Cheryl Strayed’s Wild were scooped up by her production company before they were published. Her influence is huge – the day she shared a video of herself raving about Jessica Knoll’s thriller, Luckiest Girl Alive, it hit the Top 100 on Amazon.
