THE Irish actress who starred opposite Jamie Dornan in hit series The Fall is trading the grim Belfast streets of the murder thriller – to take on a role in a Hollywood movie.

Bronagh Waugh, from Coleraine, has landed a role in her first big movie and is headed for Atlanta, Georgia to begin filming this week.

The film, called Axis, is about an Irish actor whose life threatens to fall apart just as he lands a role in a blockbuster film. It’s directed by Aisha Tyler, best-known for her role as Ross Geller’s academic girlfriend Charlie in Friends.

Also starring in the film are Chris O’Dowd and Ciarán Hinds.

Bronagh, who has appeared in slew of TV shows, including Casualty and Hollyoaks, won critical acclaim when she played Dornan’s long-suffering wife on The Fall.

She said that working alongside Jamie was just as enjoyable as people would imagine it to be.

‘He’s lovely; he’s such a nice person and a fantastic actor. It’s a pleasure to work with him and have him as a friend.’

Season three of the series is back in the autumn and the actress is excited for the next season. But although it is set in Northern Ireland, she says she was not recognised on the streets. ‘My hair colour is always changing,’ she laughed. It was red, then blonde then dark.’

And if her hair is constantly changing, so are her leading men.

She has also just starred in a short movie, Heart Overheard, alongside Dylan Townsend.

Dylan is the brother of actor Stuart Townsend. He raised his profile last year by taking part in RTÉ reality show Exiles, in which he and a group of other Irish wannabes moved to the Canadian city and tried to launch careers there. Dylan and Bronagh met in Vancouver.

‘The short follows the lives of two people living in Canada and Dylan also acts in it,’ she said.

While she has been drawn to dark roles, Bronagh is not at all a dark person herself and said she would consider comedy.

But she would also love to be a wench-like character in Game Of Thrones. ‘Game Of Thrones is amazing,’ she said.

‘And it’s actually the same casting director from The Fall. I might have a word.’

Bronagh also played opposite Dublin actor Emmett Scanlon in Channel 4 soap opera Hollyoaks. The actress, who played the part of Cheryl Brady, left the soap in 2013 after dramatic scenes which also saw the departure of Scanlon from the show.

At the time, she said she was leaving to try to explore new acting opportunities in the UK and America.

And it appears that her decision has paid off – as she is now packing her bags for her big American break on to the big screen. The 33-year-old actress has had a massively successful 2016 to date, with a number of new roles under her belt.

She landed a role in Channel Zero, a new horror series on NBC due to be broadcast this year, also starring Harry Potter’s Fiona Shaw.

And she has also bagged a part on Season 12 of Supernatural, which will be shown on E4 here later in the year.

‘I’m playing a baddie,’ she said previously.
