ROBBIE KEANE retired his international shirt this week but his wife Claudine is already priming the next family football star – thanks to the Irish Daily Mail.

While Claudine wrote an emotional tribute to her husband on social media, she was also delighted that her seven-year-old son was being earmarked for future stardom.

‘Robert’s absolutely delighted with himself. Seven years of age he’s already planning his debut for Ireland. Bless him,’ she tweeted, along with a photo of Robert holding the Irish Daily Mail which had carried a picture of Robbie proudly holding his son in a green jersey.

This week the Ireland captain announced he was retiring from the squad after 67 goals in 145 games and representing his country in three major tournaments.

‘Each and every time I put on the green jersey it is such an honour. Words can’t express how proud I am to be Irish,’ he said this week.

Robbie will play his last game on Wednesday at the Aviva Stadium against Oman. His two sons, Robert and Hunter, will be team mascots on the night.

Paying tribute to her husband Claudine wrote in her newspaper column: ‘Words can’t truly express how incredibly proud I am of my husband. He’s a great father, a wonderful friend and has achieved so much during his career for Ireland.’
