KERRY (2006/07)
Played 13 Won 11 Drawn 1 Lost 1 Average winning margin: six points
Degree of difficulty:
Armagh and Tyrone made up the game’s big three but, while Kerry put some manners on the Orchard County in 2006, Tyrone significantly never crossed their path in these two seasons. And, when they eventually did, we all know how that rolled. They also lose a point for being the only of this group to lean on a second chance. Rating: 4/10
Consistency:
Their back-to-backs came in a run where they contested six All-Ireland finals on the bounce and in a decade when they were fourtime champions. Rating: 9/10
Discipline:
They could be easy on the eye but had a bit of a reputation for being hard on the referee’s ear as well as fouling in the right place. Rating: 6/10
Strength in depth:
An embarrassment of riches, particularly in attack where Darran O’Sullivan, Seán O’Sullivan, Bryan Sheehan or Mike Frank Russell could be sprung from the bench. Rating: 9/10
Star quality:
They had five player of the year recipients in those back-to-back winning teams, an honour that somehow excluded Darragh Ó Sé, Declan O’Sullivan and, the most puzzling omission of all, Colm Cooper. In terms of natural footballing talent, no group in the last 30 years were as blessed. Rating: 10/10 Total: 38/50
