After Pippa’s tips, now it’s MEGHAN’S MANTRAS
. . . AND THEY’RE JUST AS CRINGINGLY OBVIOUS
THEY are already startlingly alike in looks – but now Prince Harry’s girlfriend Meghan Markle and British royal sisterin-law Pippa Middleton are starting to sound alike too.
The US actress moonlights as a blogger and offers ‘mantras’ of a type not seen since Miss Middleton recommended putting water in the freezer to make ice.
Miss Markle describes her website The Tig, named after her favourite wine, as a ‘breeding ground for ideas and excitement for an inspired lifestyle’.
But its elementary tips and banal ‘life-affirming’ slogans might be described less kindly as glaringly self-evident, risking the sort of sneers that greeted the publication of Miss Middleton’s 2012 book Celebrate, with its painfully obvious advice.
On Friday, Miss Markle took to her blog to offer tips on cutting back on food waste.
‘Reduce waste by using all the scraps,’ she wrote. ‘This age-old trick saves money and food from being thrown out.’
She also suggested readers need not throw out half-eaten Christmas turkeys. She advised boiling ‘leftover bones to make a flavourful and healthy broth’ and suggested slicing up cold meat to make a sandwich. The site is peppered with quotes which she describes as ‘golden nuggets that become my mantras’.
She advises readers to print them out ‘for a little daily pick-me-up’. One reads: ‘Shoot for the moon. Even if you don’t hit it, you’ll always land in the stars’. Another states: ‘Women are like teabags. They don’t realise how strong they are until they’re in hot water.’
In previous posts she shared her tips for good skincare. Alongside the slogan, ‘we are stars wrapped in skin – the light you are looking for has always been within’, she offered such obvious suggestions as ‘drinking loads of water’, ‘applying sunblock’ and ‘getting a facial’.
Ms Markle also shares a recipe she calls Grandma Markle’s apple butter toast.
‘I rarely saw my Grandma Markle, as she hailed from New Hampshire and spent much of her life in Pennsylvania and Florida,’ she wrote.
‘To bridge that gap, she would always send scrapbooks, care packages, and boxes of treats made from family recipes.
‘One of my most favourite was her apple butter… this recipe is a walk down memory lane – a reminder of holding my grandma’s hand and having sing-alongs with her. Enjoy!’
