Life goes horribly wrong for the Lodge family when their home is violently invaded. Matt Damon and Julianne Moore star in a film directed by George Clooney, from a screenplay co-written by the Coen brothers.

14. The Kidnapping Of Edgardo Mortara

Mark Rylance plays Pope Pius IX in the story of a young Jewish boy who was forcibly removed from his family to be raised as a Christian. Plus, at the end of the year comes Star Wars Episode VIII. Expect to see more of Luke Skywalker and, of course, the Skelligs...

Sky Atlantic, April A cracking cast is led by Freida Pinto and Idris Elba in a drama about political activism and radical militancy in the Seventies.

23. Fearless

UTV, spring Legal thriller starring Helen McCrory as a solicitor who runs into powerful forces. Homeland writer Patrick Harbinson describes it as set in ‘the crash zone, where law and politics collide’. The cast includes Michael Gambon and comedian John Bishop.
