Travel TREATS

- By Eddie Coffey travel@mailonsunday.ie

TOP DRAW: It’s hard to believe that Titanic Belfast is only five years old. Seems like it’s been there forever. It’s well worth a visit and the world of tourism seems to agree, since it has been voted world’s leading tourist attraction by the prestigious World Travel Awards in the Maldives... the first time this award was won by an Irish venue. The tourists seem to like it too, with 3.5 million visiting since it opened. If you want to make a weekend of it at the end of the month, check into the Hilton across the river from the Titanic Quarter, which includes one night B&B, tickets to Titanic Belfast and SS Nomadic from only €75pp sharing.

CRUISIN’ FOR A

BREAK: There’s something soothing about the prospect of a cruise. I’ve never been, but the offer that popped in from Sunway sounds good. Set off from Barcelona and visit Palma de Mallorca; Provence, Florence, Pisa, Rome and Naples from €1,179pp, flights from Dublin included. Visit sunway.ie/cruise

FESTIVAL FUN:

Iceland has come into our orbit much more of late thanks to WOW air. If you’re into music festivals, they have a special at the moment in conjunction with the Secret Solstice event, featuring, among others, Foo Fighters and The Prodigy. Packages including flights, accommodation and tickets start from €590. Visit secretsolstice.is

MALTESE MIX:

Mercury, Budget and Concorde Travel are all offering trips to Malta this year at good rates, including accommodation. The Malta Tourist Authority tells us that May is an especially good month to visit, with Malta fashion week running from May 20 to 27. Visit maltauk.com
