LISA CANNON is no stranger to hard graft, realising back in her Trinity College days that the dream job will never land in her lap.

So, long before her Xposé stint, the then-struggling drama and theatre student knew the importance of getting herself on to film sets with the likes of Jim Sheridan and Shimmy Marcus.

And during one summer in New York, she even ended up with a job as a runner on Sex And The City.

So when she was dropped from the Xposé line-up last year, it might have come as a blow, but Lisa was not about to give up.

Now she has finally landed her own TV show, doing what she loves most... talking about movies.

Her recent job as host of Weekend

‘I never felt pressure to lose weight for TV’

AM was bound to end because she was there to cover for maternity leave, but bosses at 3e were so impressed with her that they offered her the movie show, the Irish Mail on Sunday can reveal.

One insider said: ‘Lisa did really well on Weekend AM. She showed versatility, and that she was up for any challenge. She will be fronting a new movie show on 3e, which will start in the coming months.’

The former Xposé girl finished up as co-host on Weekend AM last week, as Anna Daly is preparing to return after her maternity leave. Lisa, who was axed from the Xposé line-up last year was unsure about her future at Ballymount but after her impressive stint she will stay on and her degree in drama and theatre should help.

She has previously said ‘drive and ambition’ saw her land work doing ‘anything at all’ on TV sets and films.

She first worked in radio and then landed a job as a producer on RTÉ One’s prestigious Nationwide series, eventually moving in front of the camera as part of the original line-up of Xposé.

Even before her role on Xposé ended last autumn, she had hinted at a movie show and is understood to be ‘absolutely thrilled’ that it has been given the green light.

This comes after being named as the first ever brand ambassador for Weight Watchers Ireland, something she is particularly proud off.

‘I’m thrilled, I smashed it. My goal was to lose a stone but I lost a stone and a pound so I’m delighted,’ she told the MoS.

And while she is set to finally front her own show she doesn’t feel the need to lose weight for the cameras.

‘I never felt pressure. But at my wedding, while I was happy with how I looked, I didn’t lose weight the healthy way. There was a lot of stress weight loss which isn’t good. So after the wedding the weight crept back up.’
