An adorable first family picture by Rhys Meyers
The Cork actor puts his troubled days behind him as his partner Mara shares family photo on holiday in Asia
IT is perhaps the most defining role of his life, but Jonathan Rhys Meyers is playing the part of fatherhood beautifully.
The troubled actor is enjoying some time out with his ‘wife’ Mara Lane and son in Vietnam – and as these pictures show he has left his troubles behind.
The photographs also give a unique snapshot into the family life of the notoriously private thespian, who became a first-time father last year. The main image appears to have been taken at Halong Bay, a celebrated beauty spot in Vietnam.
Baby Wolf Rhys Meyers was born in their LA home on December 15 but the parents didn’t share the first shot of him until February. In an Instagram tribute to her husband last week, Mara said: ‘J is thee best Father btw (sic).’ She added: ‘Ridiculously loving, super protective, patient and attentive.
‘Wolf is basically snuggled, kissed, adored, sang to and entertained any free minute he has by his Papa.’
Mara concluded with the hashtags: ‘#LuckyMom #BlessedWife.’
Jonathan enjoyed time with Mara’s family on their Asian trip, and little Wolf was introduced to his great-grandmother. As they took in the stunning sights, the clean-cut Tudors actor looked happy and relaxed.
Wolf’s arrival marks a change in fortunes for the Cork star, whose battle with alcoholism has been well documented. He is believed to have had six stints in rehab over the past few years.
And his meltdowns have been spectacular. In 2007, he was arrested at Dublin Airport on charges of public drunkenness. In 2011, he received a suspended sentence and €1,000 fine for a similar meltdown at Paris’s De Gaulle Airport. In 2010, he said: ‘I just don’t want to be that f ****** a ******* sitting in the pub and someone turns around and says, “See him there at the bar, he could have made a f ****** fortune, but he went over to Hollywood and he just f ****** p **** d it up against the wall”.’
