Man dies suddenly at music festival
A MAN died suddenly at the Body & Soul music festival in Westmeath yesterday.
The 31-year-old received treatment from advanced paramedics and a doctor at the festival’s medical tent but died at around 3pm.
A Garda spokesman said the death was not suspicious.
Elsewhere, a teenage boy was airlifted to hospital in Cork yesterday morning after a sailing accident off Schull. Emergency services were called at 11.25am to assist the 14-year-old, who was hit on the head by the boat’s boom.
In another rescue, a competitor in the Red Bull Cliff Diving World Series on Inis Mór island was air-lifted to hospital yesterday afternoon.
A Coast Guard helicopter from Shannon was dispatched to the Aran Islands after the woman sustained spinal injuries. She was airlifted to Galway University Hospital.
The sold-out event involves a 27 metre cliff dive.
There was also a rescue in Dublin when Howth Coast Guard was called to help a 53-year-old kitesurfer who was injured at Sutton in north Dublin. The man was treated at the scene by a nurse and the Coast Guard helped bring him to hospital. It is believed his injuries are serious.
Meanwhile, an investigation is under way after a woman in her 80s died in a house fire yesterday.
Emergency services were called to a house on Sea Road in Arklow, Co. Wicklow, at 12.30pm. The pensioner was pronounced dead at the scene.
