Travel TREATS
SAY CHEESE:
Newcastle West wouldn’t be on everyone’s list of places to see, it has to be said. But they’ve just launched a new food tour which highlights the many delights that are locally sourced. Tastings on the tour are plentiful and include coffee with raw milk from Croom, granola from Curraghchase and award-winning cheddar from its resident cheese maker, Cahill’s. It’s organised by local foodie and general livewire Sharon Noonan. Next tour is on July 20. sharonnoonan.com
TEE-RIFIC APP: There are some people out there who don’t like golf, apparently. Ah well, their loss, I suppose. For those of you who, like me, would travel the earth for a game, watch out for the launch of the app My Golf Opens during the week. You’ll be able to browse where you can play for the foreseeable. They’re also offering a chance to win €25,000 worth of giveaways as part of the launch. mygolfopens.ie SEE RORY LIVE: And on the subject of golf, there’s only one place this coming week for fans of the small ball. Portstewart is hosting the Irish Open which will have Rory McIlroy, Justin Rose, Hideki Matsuyama and John Rahm, left, among the genuine stars playing. If you haven’t seen Rory driving it 300+ yards in the flesh (and I haven’t) then this is the time to see him rip it!
GAME ON: With Wimbledon about to be served up over the next few weeks, Project Travel are running tennis holidays and short breaks. They offer four nights (€655pps) or seven nights (€1,410pps) with ten or 20 hours of coaching respectively at the Annabel Croft Academy. Transfers to Pine Cliffs Resort included (not flights). project-travel.ie
CITY BREAK: Citywest Hotel, on the outskirts of Dublin is offering a family stay for four, two nights B&B plus one dinner, in their new Woodlock Brasserie including activities and leisure facilities from €372. And, just in case you didn’t know, they have a golf course there also!
