Evil Nidge gets Sherlock in a headlock

- By Kevin Duggan

WHO would win in a fight between Love/Hate’s top criminal Nidge – and top detective Sherlock?

Well Marvel fans are going to find out, when the actors who play these parts on the TV take to the big screen opposite each other.

Tom Vaughan-Lawlor swapped Nidge’s signature zipped-up-tothe-top tracksuit for a motion capture onesie to overpower Sherlock Holmes’ Benedict Cumberbatch on the set of the upcoming blockbuster Avengers: Infinity War.

The actor, from Dundrum, Dublin, will take the role of a mystery alien villain alongside a star-studded cast.

This photo was snapped on the movie’s set in Atlanta, Georgia. Judging by the words ‘EB-MAW’ on his right shoulder, Nidge is rumoured to be playing Ebony Maw, an evil alien with the power to control minds while going completely undetected.

Ebony Maw is part of the Black Order, a sinister gang of minions working for Thanos, the supervillain of the new movie, played by Josh Brolin.

The big budget flick promises international fame for Dublin’s favourite gangster character with the previous two Avengers movies grossing a combined $1bn.

Cumberbatch will play the superhero, Doctor Strange. He debuted in the Marvel franchise last October in the eponymous movie and will appear again in Thor: Ragnarok alongside Chris Hemsworth later this year.

‘Nidge’ and ‘Sherlock’ will be sharing the screen with several other big names, such as Robert Downey Jr, Scarlett Johansson, Chris Pratt, Brie Larson – of Lenny Abrahamson’s Room fame – and many more.

The film, directed by Anthony and Joe Russo, is due to be released here on May 4, 2018.

Vaughan-Lawlor – who is a graduate of Trinity College – made his Hollywood debut last year in The Infiltrator, which starred Breaking Bad’s Bryan Cranston.
